What is Encouragement? It is something that gives courage or imparts hope. Everyone needs encouragement. I do, you do. Giving it may require rendering personal help or expressing appreciation. It may involve assisting someone to see how to cope with a difficult situation or discussing reasons for confidence in a better future. At times much good is done by simply displaying a sympathetic attitude. ( Romans 12:15)
Who needs encouragement?
Those experiencing trials because of ILLNESS and DEATH.
Here is what the bible says at Revelation 21:4,5:
“God will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be any more.
( Isaiah 25: 8,9) says “God will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign lord will certainly wipe the tears from all faces….”
Very comforting message.
These are the words that comforts me. For those of us who have lost our loved ones in death, I encourage you to visit these words that have not only given me encouragement to move on in times of hardships, but has drawn me close to God.
To add on to the list, we need to pray for one another, and pray for those who are being stricken with diseases, those in persecution, those dis-hearted because of Injustices. For those hard pressed by economic problems and for all those who are discouraged because of their own shortcomings.
We are one big family, we should all pray for one another. Pray for unity and peace. God will hear our prayers.

The Love of Money Is The Root Of All Evil? How many Zambian Women from the Villages can read?

I am so speechless -
The report from Pfizer confirms my concerns. This is why I am crying for help. Zambian women have been abused for a long time.
This is not a one person’s mess, it is the world mess. It is not too late to correct our mistakes. The so called melting pot is no longer a melting pot.
There is just evil in every corner of the world. How about the future of Zambian children and the women?
My advice to Zambian people is:
The last thing you should think of is violent.
You now know about the drug. Learn to say no thank you. Drug companies always blame consumers. What breaks my heart is sending a drug that has problems to a country that has one of the highest rates of HIV/ AIDS.
Please women need a break. One day you will need just one egg from the woman to create your future. What is amazing is, no one takes money to the grave. Wait until God whacks this world. He will start from the lab that created HIV virus.
Each one of us will be judged. Remember Sodom and Gomorrah, Remember Noah’s Ark, go back to history. We all come from one tree, and that is what makes us equal. Can you imagine the earth without women?
Think about that, the earth with one color. That would have been so boring. The earth looks beautiful with so many colors, and that is why all colors should live. If you can not stand that … pack your bags and go to another planet.
Do your home work before you wipe out Zambian women? The hint is Zambia is a country of immigrants on a small scale.
Half members of my immediate family are Zambians, Americans, Italians, British, Scottish, Germans, Zimbabweans, and I think Congolese too. That is how my blood is connected to the entire world.
British went were there was money. Northern Rhodesia (Zambia) had the mines. My grand mother was left behind because she was born from a half black woman. Zambian people took in that child, and the child grew up a Zambian without parents. As usual Zambians are wonderful people that respect life, by then, not now.
My Plea to Pfizer.
For heaven’s sake Zambia should get good drugs.
This country has helped a lot of neighboring countries that are fighting, refugees camps are set up in Zambia. I also rescued some refuges from Congo; they can tell the experiences of being a refugee.
At least Zambia needs real help, it time Zambia gets real help. Bring HIV and Food supplements, vitamins drugs to save the nation. I refuse to make my mother country a ladder for other people, and when it comes to Zambians seeking help, we are on the bottom of the list, because of the understanding that Zambians are ignorant and dull, as per remarks of the Zambian Health Minister, who I also question his integrity, of putting down his own people, when he as a qualified Minister could not detect other side effects of the drug. If he was that smart, why depend on South Africa. He did not need South Africa to conduct other tests. I did my own research in two days, After the same Minister went to the media to address the nation about the drug. If I did not read the minister and the consulate article, I would have not known about it. I went on and did my own research, and find out more side effects, on the same drug. Basically I did the Health Minister’s job. He was supposed to do that, before giving the drug to women. The search engine is easy to use. On that note, I need to know why the Zambian Health Minister can not be fired too. If I did not read his article of withdraw of the drug, I would have not known so much about other side effects. Why should the minister go so aggressively to prosecute the technician who did a wrong test, when himself did not alert women about the Black box warning by FDA and the drug company. At least, my sister and friends were not told, at the time it was given to them. So who is to blame here. Drug companies are ruthless, not only did they betray the American government, the drug company has betrayed me as woman. Up to now my sister has severe complications, due to the drug.
There will be no one left. At least spare the youth for the future. By the way I found the example of a pregnancy test with water very mocking and insulting. Zambia’s education system is poor with only two major state universities.
In a middle of the road that goes from Ndola to Kitwe, there is a tree that has been saved for history. Were slaves were sold. Under that tree came our fore fathers that went to build the world. Just like Zambia was a British colony.
America was a British Colony. The first settlers went to America in 1607. And colonized 13 states. Then back and forth to Africa to capture slaves to build all the wealth…
6It touches my heart to see the social decay of our Zambian communities littered with homeless street children in the cities. The sad part of this scenario is that it is no man’s business – I mean it like nobody cares. The goverment seem to be so naive about this issue. We are sitting on a time bomb and surely something has to be done to diffuse this bomb.
7I will be in Zambia for a couple of months starting May 2008 because I want to go and see some community resources I can work with to see if we can find an alternative better life for some of these wonderful and precious children. I feel like we just need to get started rather than just watching in amazement. I just need somebody’s encouragment me because I know that this is not an easy task for a single person. I am emotinaly hooked to this cause and peace will only come in me once I put up my contribution to see these children getting socially transformed to be responsible citizens. Any Ideas or Advise will be appreciated. I know together we can make a difference.
Francis,
… it amazing you are talking about this, as a matter of fact a colleague of mine called me just last week with a heavy heart about street children in Zambia. This colleague said the saddest thing is that no body seems to care in government.
To exacerbate the situation, these kids are so used to begging that even if one created a safe half way house for them, their begging on the streets is more lucrative than going to school. He was blaming the public for contributing to the problem just as much because they just keep giving hand outs.
This is a catch 22 situation and one has a mammoth task when it comes to mobilizing, breaking the culture and instilling a sense of urgency in all stakeholders. The future of any nation, is in the hands of its young ones.
We are the Zambian Chronicle want to applaud you for wanting to get started. Please feel free to contact us as much as possible and let’s exchange ideas here on the forum. We too believe this situation can be turned around and you are part of that solution … thanks a trillion
8Great website!! Keep up the good work!!
9I get tickled every time I hear about the horrors of African…Zambian life. Much of the time these disgruntled “voices of reason” are those of a privileged who have been able to leave Zambia and start a new life for themselves.
I hear talk of how corrupt Zambia is, how un developed, how backward and Lord knows what else.
What I do not see often is Zambians doing something…I hear talking but see inaction. What does this mean? Yes governments are corrupt, the Country is struggling to meet the most basic of needs. Yes we get that but for crying out loud DO SOMETHING. Don’t sit in the comfort of your air conditioned homes and offices, far away from, hiding behind the anonymity of a keyboard telling the rest of the World what a terrible place Zambia is.
Many of us leave for the Western world, the supposedly civil world seeking for answers to local developmental challenges not realizing we have the solutions at home. All we have to do is IMPLEMENT. And these are solutions if put into context would improve conditions not just at home but the human condition globally.
Take the challenge of orphans. Traditionally, African society did not have orphans. This was because my sister’s children were my children as were my brothers. This meant in the eventuality something happened to me (which it did) my children were taken care. But this was possible only because traditional African political structures made it possible.
If you went to an African village, you would find grandparents, parents, children the entire extended family living together in different homes but in one village. What this meant was children were taken care of at all times. The men woke up in the morning and went hunting, the women cultivated the fields, the girls drew the water and the boys herded livestock and so on and so forth. At the end of the day, everybody came together and shared in the day’s work and everybody was taken care of. It may not have been the equal distribution of wealth that we seek now but it was equitable and the basics were taken care of. This is the beauty of communal societies. Perhaps a good example is Italy. Go to an Italian Countryside Villa and the systems works. Upgraded but still very much based on the same principal the same one that is evolving to be globalization today.
On the other hand, Western society (American especially) is very individualistic in nature. The emphasis is on the individual not that there is anything wrong that. I have to achieve, I,I,I and yet the same Yankees will tell you there is no I in Team(….hmmm maybe those stupid Africans were on to something after all)
Personally, I don’t believe one is better than the other but that the answer to our socio-economic and cultural challenges are in finding a balance between the two. Then and only then can we begin to redefine ourselves as a people and set a new and better course for our children and their childrens’ children.
Perhaps a more practical example can be found in the way we deal with refugees. Today we herd them up and throw them into refugee camps with poor infrastructure and bemoan the “fugees” taking over. The Lozi King Lewanika was faced a similar challenge. His approach however was far different. When the Mbunda arrived into his Kingdom, fleeing turmoil in their native Angola, he gave them land and bestowed upon them Malozi Citizenship rights and even made them part of his Kuta(Don’t know what a Kuta is? Look it up) In sharp contrast to UN refugee camps. To this day, they flourish in the land of the Lozi. Now you tell me who is civilized.
If we are embrace all things Western, let us be very careful of what it is we are embracing and pay close attention to what we are discarding.
So yes, Zambia as with much of Africa has developmental and socio-economic challenges, we know that. And every now and then, I too like to hide behind my keyboard and the World wide web and paste a few words on a blog like the Zambian Chronicles, we are allowed but besides talking, DO SOMETHING!
10Lisa,
11… your comment is well received, please feel free to post your suggestion about DOING SOMETHING … thanks a trillion
Here is one http://www.project-educate.org
12I am sure there are more out there. Maybe we can find ways of bringing work like this to other people’s attention…(thinking out loud here)
Lisa,
You nailed it girl, excellent observation. Absolutely, words without action are meaningless. I do agree with you, we all should take responsibility to help with implementation of the ideas we brig forward, though the system itself makes it very difficult, to allow most of us to do anything. There is so much corruption. Each and every center of any office you go to wants you to pay a kick back before you are allowed to do anything. That puts off most of us.
Your suggstions are well taken.
Thanks A trillion
13Gotcha babe.
Somebody, can’t remember who said “A government is only as good as its’ people”
Yet another…”people have the government they demand.” or something to that effect.
And one of my favorites Eleanor Roosevelt – “It is better to light a candle than to curse the darkness”
and what about JFK “ask not what your Country can do for you but what you can do for your Country”
or
“Never doubt for a moment that a small group of determined people can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” …I think that was Margaret Meade.
There is an underlying theme here that can also be seen in Friedman’s “The World is flat”…people doing things for themselves. Taking the initiative despite the odds
A few decades ago, India was a non-entity in the eyes of the the International community not unlike Africa is now.
With advancements in technology fast tracking developing nations into prominence…I think we have a chance. A good one at that.
14Lisa,
… terrific, you are exactly the kind of material needed for the Zambian Enterprise to go forward. Keep at it and keep pouring your heart out, the world is watching.
Never underestimate the power of your penship, proud of you … thanks a trillion.
15Brainsplus,
You are much too kind but I am afraid I am one of those deserters I earlier mentioned who are better at entering key strokes. Notice none of the quotes are mine:-)LOL. Still the kind words are appreciated. We all need that sometimes. Ciao.

19On Obama:
Africans have a penchant for passing the buck and expecting prosperity to fall from heaven whenever issues of national development come to the fore. What does this assertion have to do with the Obama victory? Well for starters it points to the very nature of ineptitude that continues to shape our people’s psyche and their misguided belief that Africa’s woes will be solved by some miraculous intervention by some super being. However, to the contrary the pitfalls of Africa’s development can only be rectified by Africans themselves. Therefore, Africans should not expect Obama to come to their rescue after they have failed to put their houses in order due to corruption, mal-governance, tribalism, nepotism, mediocrity and national paralysis shaped by myopic leaderships. No one but the Africans can free themselves from this on-going socio-economic and political malaise. Africans have to redeem themselves and not expect anyone to realise this noble ideal. Yes, it is good to see a mixed-race individual (Obama is neither black nor White, but a blend of the two. However, Africans claim him more for obvious reasons), becoming president of the most powerful nation on earth. Indeed, it is gratifying to note that the twenty-first century has debunked the myths of a racist America whereby talent and hard-work has now prevailed over bigotry and half-truths. This is the lesson that Zambians should draw from the Obama campaign and eventual rout of the Republicans. That with the hard-work, talent and fortitude, a person can be credited on merit to either become president of Zambia or hold public office. It should not be based on one’s “connections”, tribe or brown-nosing. Also, we should recognise the fact that education absolutely matters. Zambia, like all African nations is a modern state. It is part of a fast-paced technological and economically advancing global community. It is not a small village. Therefore, the acumen to lead such an entity is first and foremost dependent on inta alia, education. Obviously, there are also other personal attributes such as honesty, humility, care for those who are disadvantaged, etc. Conversely, the electorate also needs to be educated and enlightened. An illiterate and uninformed electorate will not be able to choose the calibre of leadership that will speak to policy options for national development, but rather, will be mesmerised by demagogues, ideologues, populists or alarmists. Until the day that Zambia (and Africa in general) is led by sober, competent and visionary leaders, the ordinary people will continue to wallow in their poverty and misery.
