Cambridge University psychologist once took a survey. They wanted to collect data for nations under the British Commonwealth around the world on each continent and see which nationals had the highest IQ per region.

They took samples of test results they had prepared using “Special Papers” from 1963 to 1983. Anyone who went through the Cambridge examination system knows that for one to qualify from Grade 7 to Form 1 needed to seat for Special Paper 1 and Special Paper 2 exams apart from regular subjects.

The Special Papers were not part of the regular syllabus but one had to pass both to qualify and these papers were designed to test the IQ of students and they also helped secondary school registrars in knowing which classes new entrants would be best suited for based on their passing criteria.

I read the results of that survey at the British Council in Lusaka in 1984 – I liked going to their library during school holidays. I was not shocked to discover that, Zambians did not only score high but they actually were on top for Africa, India was top for Middle and Far East Asia and Bahamas was top for the Caribbean’s and so on.

The smart people of the Zambian Enterprise had such a high IQ per capita of any nation in Africa based on those findings and it is no wonder we refer to them here at the Zambian Chronicle as “Smart” all the time. It is no conjecture that people who try to fool us can not succeed all the time; they may some time but not all the time.

It is no marvel that the smart people of the Zambian Enterprise have been trailblazers when it comes to being the first on many fronts not just at home but around the world. I have never seen a Zambian at the bottom of their class even as foreign students around the world.

The smart people of the Zambian Enterprise are so peaceful, their peacefulness is sometimes mistaken for docility, and they are so hospitable their kindness is usually taken for granted; they are so meek their meekness is misunderstood for weakness.

They are so innovative and it is amazing what they usually come up with. Their analytical skills are out of this world – sometimes leading to paralysis of analysis, while their problem solving skills are more than phenominal.

Now that the vetting process for the next CEO of the Zambian Enterprise has began, we are confident the smarts will come up with the best choice to carry on the duties of the Enterprise for many are they that remain.

For this reason we have opened up a new page Zambia Votes’ 08 where just debates about the next elections will be conducted. It will be a forum for all who wish to air their views on who the next president ought to be and why their choice makes sense.

Out of respect for the first family, we wanted to wait until the Late President had been put to rest but we have taken a paradigm from his own political party which will be announcing their pick for the presidency come September 5th and we did so that equal time would to be accorded to others in the same vein.

The page is not restricted to one political party but all; the excogitations will also embrace all. I will post my comments there not in my capacity CEO & President of Zambian Chronicle but as a Zambian citizen free to air my personal views in my private capacity – because Zambia is greater than any single one of us.

We have no doubts that the smart people of the Enterprise will come up with the best choice because they are smart to start with. We don’t even see it fit to make suggestions at this point, they are smart enough to float the names at Zambia Votes’ 08 of whomever they see fit.

We trust their judgment and we have a track record to prove that with and as the days approach for all of us to do our civic duty in choosing the next president, we are happy Zambia Votes’ 08 will be a great place to discuss from …

Please join in as the smarts from around the world gather at this “Insaka” to meet, lock horns and discuss the merits of who they think would be the best for the best of the best …

Live Long & Prosper; that’s this week’s memo from us at the Zambian Chronicle … thanks a trillion.

  1. brainsplus,
… your article has opened my eyes, I have always wondered.

It is time we come up with a president who reflects the fact that we are actually more smart than the world would like to give us credit.

    1
  2. We need a new candidate for Zambia, one with totally different outlook. The MMD have overstayed. HH for prez

    2
  3. the mmd had their chances and they have proved a point, it is time we had a different party. democracy is best tested across the board not just when one clinque is involved all the time.

    3
  4. I think the MMD will still maintain the presidency up to 2011. The oppostion has a good chance then especially if the MMD chooses a weak candidate.

    4
  5. I am backing the acting president to finish Levy’s term, it will show continuity on the part of Zambians.

Also, investors will have confidence because VP RB is actually a UNIPist disguised as MMD.

    5
  6. What we have is a situation whereby any MMD candidate would easily scoop this election, HH needs to play Sata and let him run under the guise of unity and then let him lose.

Then HH turns around and asks PF to back for the bigger prize of 2011, Sata needs to comply because he would have been backed for 2008 anyway.

    6
  7. this is interesting, we need a really smart man this time around, not another compromise. brainsplus tells us we are smarter than that, thnks

    7
  8. fellas,
i think the best strategy is to wait and see who the MMD comes up with and then hammer

    8
  9. also the time for campaigning is rather short, the next constitution needs to seriously look at this.

    9
  10. the problem is that the MMD are in charge of the money for campaigning. even if britain said they will work with the european union on making sure the election is funded, the MMD might just take advantage of the opposition.

    10
  11. First of all, I wanted to thank brainsplus for coming up with such a brilliant idea as always.

Secondly, I think the smartest thing to do is save the best candidates for 2011 because the MMD will get a sympathy vote, just watch.

    11
  12. … keep it coming folks, thanks a trillion

    12
  13. this election will be won by mmd no matter what

    13
  14. the MMD is likely to get a compromise candidate who would attract a lot of sympathy

    14
  15. HH is the man of the hour, smart and savvy

    15
  16. I think what every one is forgetting is that the opposition can win this if they featured one candidate.

The reason they have been losing is because they have been spliting for votes since 1996 otherwise if they stick together they can rein in a new president this time around.

    16
  17. it bothers me that, we are not usually focused on national development any more just more of the same.

    17
  18. UNIP has no chance this time as long as Tilyenji is on the ticket.

    18
  19. Brilliant

    19
  20. Zambians are smart, they will figure things out, even this time around …

    20
  21. the mmd can bring back mwape from china. i think he would be a good president.

    21
  22. moses mukenda says:

From the look of things, MMD will move forward in continuation up to the next 2yrs and the adoption will be on merit among MMD leaders.

    22
  23. am very happy to see people like this,we Zambian are intellect yes especially when it comes to SPEAKING.We need a leader not president.we have had enough of president but now we need leader to think for the future of Zambia.we food security, fuel strategy, fight corruption not individuals and listen from a common Zambian.we need food on table and a leader that will not replace all government position with relatives, therefore in short this leadership has not been exhibited by MMD
we are sleep too much we need to work and tackle real issues

    23
  24. BRAIN PLUS ARE READY FOR THE DEBATES ON WHO SHOULD BE THE PRESIDENT OF ZAMBIA AFTER MWANAWASA?

    24
  25. Back on board after along time on who should be Zambias president. In the MMD there is a confussion on who should be the successor of Levy.Currently there are about 13 people who want to stand for presidence in MMD before even their master is put to rest. Who is who?

    25
  26. Victor Mwewa says:

It is a shame that the MMD people are busy wanting to succeed Levy before even he is put to rest. Shame upon you people. Now coming to the fisrt lady please desist from making comments on who should be the next president of Zambia. You are still mourning your husband. Put him to rest and then you can have a free mind to talk about the way forward. There is what we call in Zambia ‘isambo lyamfwa’ where such matters can be talked about. That time has not yet come. Bury the big man and then you people in MMD can have a piece of mind to succeed him (Levy-MHSRIP).

HH is the man. The people of Zambia must learn from now on that change is the only constant. What has RB got for the Country at the age of 76? I’m not being ageist but realistic. Older members of any society have their role to play. Let RB go back to his retirement zone. When will our country move on from the fight against colonialism? It is not colonialism we are tying to rid of ourselves but hunger, deprivation, pride, freedom to associate with our country, mother Zambia.

Let us look at a team that is going to make us Zambians proud even to carry our passports as we travell around the world. People laugh at us, not because we are poor, but because of the choices that we make. t is not what any boy has that defines them. It is the choices that they make that defines them. It is time for Zambia to choose a young and enterprising leader. It is time for Zambia to move forward. It is time for Zambia to begin to think globally and act locally. It is time for Zambia to realise that we are not isolated from every other nation.

Zambia is my country. I love my country Zambai. I want to see my country move forward. I want my country to Preogress and not regress. RB and Sata are of a different age. They speak the language of a different age. Unfortunately enough, they have an audience.

Mr Sata is good enough being in that boat. We have no floods this time around. We are in fact thirsty. We need water to drink and not for riding on.

I am not a cadre but a person who loves my country. I am hoping that my simple analysis is even a little objective.

    ZAMBIA- FORWARD
    ZAMBIA-KUMBELE
    ZAMBIA-BUYANTANSHI
    ZAMBIA-KUSOGORO

  28. Mwendandende UN says:

    Sisters and brothers,
clear mindedly here are the things that I am sure weall need the next CEO of Zambia to address. We need the next president to address these “heart of the matter” issues without compromise and perpetual rhetoric.

    1. Provision of quality health care for all.

    2. Access to quality education for all

    3. Reverse the trickle down economic philosophy to a more humane bottom-to-top philosophy.

    4. Economic growth should not be measured and defined by how many people are buying costly vehicles or how many buildings are being erected? Important though these criteria may be but the basis must be how many people afforded to eat today? How many families are made poor because of the loss of theri bread winner to HIV/AIDS? How many people are spending the night in the cold of the intercity bus terminus because they can’t afford basic transit accomodation.

    5. Motivate the Zambian worker so that the worker may ontribute effectively to the social, economic, political and human development of Zambia.

    6. Revamp the agriculture industry.

    7. Facilitate sustainable industrialisation and infrastructural development.

    8. Continue the commitment to eradicating corruption in all sectors.

    9. Must be a team. Individuals own the dreams. The dreams live on only when shared with a team.

    10. Must be a sensible and dignified person. Must be a professional in theory and practice.

These are none negotiables for all of us. Who so ever does not satisfy me on these will not see my vote. If one is sensational about these issues s/he is being populist and that will mean no vote from me.

Zambians , lets lay down our none negotiables before we surrender our power to a few.

    Zambia Yathu!!!!!!!
