The Africa Boxing Union (ABU) defence title fight between Zambia’s Joseph ‘No Pressure’ Chingangu against Nigerian Addewale ‘Tiger’ Abbe has received a boost of K15 million from Club Vegas.
The cash injection has come at the right time when the stables needed it most for Chingangu to defend the belt he won three years ago.
The Zambian pugilist defeated South African Osborne Machimane.
DS promotions manager David Sinkala confirmed in an interview yesterday that Club Vegas contributed K15 million towards the staging of the crucial fight billed for National Sports Development centre (NASDEC) on Saturday.
Sinkala said his stables was aware that the Government worked on a tight budget with many competing needs and could not be blamed for not sponsoring his boxer.
He said the stables had an estimated budget of K274 million but later adjusted to K254 million.
So far, only K82 million has been raised and Sinkala appealed to well wishers to bail out Chingangu.
“So far, Club Vegas has also come on board with K15 million but we still have a shortfall. We are still appealing to the corporate world to come and assist with the remaining funds so that our boxer can defend his belt,” he said.
