More organizations come to the aid of Sport In Action Awards Ceremony

Sport In Action Programme Officer Frankson Mushindu yesterday said that aside from more organisations coming on board to sponsor the second development Awards that will be graced by President Rupiah Banda next month in Lusaka, several other companies had also agreed to partner in ensuring that the awards ceremony was a success.

He said the British Council, UK Sport and UNICEF-Zambia had partnered in the sponsorship.

“They have sponsored under the International Inspirations. This will cover teachers, the Ministry of Education and coaches. This programme is in four provinces which include Lusaka, Eastern, Western and Southern. Any one coach or PE teacher or young person who has been contributing can be nominated. The President Rupiah Banda and the Minister of Education will grace the occasion,” he said.

“The British council has pumped in K3 million, Save the Children Zambia K10 million to buy two tables for the participants and nominees. The money caters for food, prize money, shield broadcasting of events and logistics.”

He said other companies had agreed on principle.

Mushindu also said that Norwegian Confederations of Sport and Durhum University had contributed 60 pounds.

And Mushindu said about K60 million of the required K150 million had been raised.

The second Sport for Development Awards – Zambia’s premier grassroots sports award ceremony are scheduled to be held on November 27 at Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka.

The awards are aimed at identifying some of the unsung contributors to the country’s sport, thereby providing motivation in the development process.
