Deputy Minister of Community Development and Social Services says local Communication Technology (ICT) firms should use the Electronic, Communication and Transactions Act to fight cyber crime in Zambia.
Parliament recently enacted the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act no 21 of 2009.
The Act contains a number of enhancements regarding the fight against cyber crime.
Government said it extensively held consultations with many stakeholders within and outside Zambia before the Law was enacted.
Deputy Minister of Community Development and Social Services, Friday Malwa, said cyber security was a major challenge, which if not addressed, could seriously hinder the country from reaping the benefits of ICTs.
Mr Malwa was speaking at the Cyber Security conference hosted by Compsource International Limited and Symantec in Lusaka on Tuesday.
He said the enactment of the law would help fight cyber crime.
