Our Zambian Chronicle series on who should be the next president has begun. This follows our inquiries into last week and subsequent research on Who Should Be The Next Zambian President? Open Forum- Pick Your Next President- ROUND 1. INONGE MBIKUSITA LEWANIKA Vs MICHEAL SATA
The main emphasis here is to explore qualities and qualifications of those who aspire to the highest office in the land because it really matters who the captain of the ship is.
It matters not only in terms of qualities but also qualifications both academic as well as professional. For all intents and purposes, this is in no way an endorsement of any of the individuals thus to be discussed.
In fact, the Zambian Chronicle would like to encourage party pundits for all candidates to contact us should any information posted about their candidates be not fully factual in terms of content and nature.
We are more than ready to stand corrected …
So having said the above, we start the ball rolling as we launch this by looking at Inonge Mbikusita Lewanika vs. Michael Sata popularly known as King Cobra first.
It would also be fair to disclose that Dr. Lewanika has not personally declared her interest in running for office this time around even though she did run in 2001 under a different party (Agenda for Zambia).
In the same light, we are aware that Mr. Michael Sata has declared his intent to retire should his party come up with a better candidate who they think would stand a better chance at beating the incumbent party’s eventual nominee for 2,011.
Dr Inonge Mbikusita Lewanika
Born July 10th, 1943 in Senanga Dr. Lewanika is a senior politician currently serving as Ambassador of the Republic of Zambia to the USA. She also is aspiring for position of Chairperson of African Unity (AU).
Dr. Lewanika attended New York University, was a Lecturer and Professor of education at the University of Zambia and lectured at Evelyn Hone College and Mongu Teacher Training College between 1965 and 1972.
After that she worked for UNICEF as a regional adviser for Africa and in 1991 was elected to Parliament for MMD. While in parliament she worked on various committees.
These included but not limited to Foreign Affairs, Experts Committee on Conditions of Service, Education, Science and Technology and also Children, Youth and Women.
Mr. Michael Chilufya Sata
Born 1937 in Mpika, Zambia; Mr. Michael C Sata was a former chief executive of the ruling party MMD and close partner of former president Fredrick Chiluba.
Mr. Sata is now a leader of Patriotic Front (PF), he is popularly known as “King Cobra”.
No academic qualifications are found nor indicated in any of his profiles but his work experience includes; police officer (as constable), railway man, and trade unionist before entering politics in 1963.
In 1985 he became a Member of Parliament for Kabwata Constituency in Lusaka before becoming Governor under United National Independence Party (UNIP).
Under the Movement for Multiple party Democracy (MMD) he served as Minister for Local government, Labor and briefly Health Minister before being appointed Minister without portfolio in 1995.
Michael Sata left MMD and set up a new party Patriotic Front (PF) after Chiluba nominated Levy Mwanawasa. He has had two failed attempts at the presidency both in 2001 and 2006.
At issue here is the sixty-four billion dollar question as to who would be most qualified between Dr. Inonge Mbikusita Lewanika and Mr. Michael Sata to lead the nation in this 21st century and why.
We hope pundits will look at a veracity of issues pertaining to both qualities as well as qualification of who we should put forward as the nation’s chief executive officer for the Zambian Enterprise in these perilous times.
That’s this week’s memo from us at the Zambian Chronicle … thanks a trillion.

Mr Sata is the one and only presidential material of 2011.Despite his age the old man seems to have the guts and intelligence amongest all those proclaiming to stand in the the next elections.HE Has experience. He has worked in Government in different potofolios with out fail.He has the driving force to change Zambia for better and for worse as many people think he can be a dictator…. and i think at the moment we need a leader who can make decission for the betterment of our country..Look at our resources..just going into the ocean to the east and west leaving the owners in poverty and economic problems!with our LEADERs just sharing donations.Who will serve Zambia from this redicule and man made poverty? Who will speek for the poor Zambian?Who will create jobs for Zambians? The answer is MIKO MULENGA CHILUFYA SATA.The rest are just political cowards who want to take advantage of the people of Zambia.Forget about all useless anoncements being made by political hallots…they just want to reap where they did not sow…VIVA SATA FOR 2011 ABASHALA NI BANGWERE…….
February 11, 2008 at 8:03 am
James Kabaso,
… your passion for Bashi Chilufya is evident and we really appreciate that but we are comparing and contrasting the above two here.
Would you please elaborate and tell the audience why Dr. Lewanika would not be a better choice compared to Mr. Michael C Sata per your analysis … thanks a trillion

SATA WILL BE TAKING ZAMBIA BACKWARDS BECOZ OF THE EXPERIENCE HE HAVE IN CORRUPT PRACTICES AND DECTETORIAL TYPE OF LEADERSHIP AS WE HAVE SEEN WHAT HEZ DOING IN HIS PARTY.HE LACKS SIGHT THATS WHY FTJ NEVER TRUSTED HIM WITH POWER. AND NOW HE IS BUSSY ALINING HIMSELF WITH TAIWAN WHICH OTHER COUNTRIES LIKE MALAWI ARE DITCHING. HOW IS HE GOING TO DEVELOP ZED LIKE THAT? DR LEWANIKA COULD BE A WOMAN WITH SUBSTANCE, NO HISTORY OF POLTICAL VIOLENCE AS IS THE CASE WITH SATA. SHE SEEM TO HAVE A STABLE POLITICAL MIND, NO DESPARATION TO AMASS POWER AS IS THE CASE WITH SATA. BUT SATA CAN BE PRESIDENT IF AND ONLY IF THE POPULATION OF THE POLITICALLY BLIND GETS VERY HIGH.HE WILL BE ABLE TO BRIBE THE WITH CHIBUKU AND CHITENGE. INONGE APPEAR TO HAVE CLEANER HANDS THAN SATA.SHE COULD BE THE BEST FEMALE PRES.

The GM,
… we can not afford to be lethargic when it comes to asking questions and requiring answers about and from those who aspire to lead us into the future. These debates are very healthy for the well being of every one … we are all political junkies because politics has a very strong bearing on all of us.
Everything rises and falls on leadership, so says Jon Maxwell and if that holds true, then the some of the reasons we might be falling behind in Africa are predicated upon our failure to identify and choose right individuals to lead us … thanks a trillion
February 11, 2008 at 6:45 pm
I agree. Open debate is a way to go. We all need to know the deepth of candidates we are voting for.We definately, do not want more suprises of failure once someone is voted in office.

The reason why I prefer Mr. SATA than madam Inonge is for the fast that Zambia has very big challenges ranging POVERTY,and luck of decission making which will be too heavy for the Lady to handle… We have too many problems which only needs turf tested people like Ba chilufya..We dont need leader will sale zambia for donation but a leader will make available to zambians what is due to them.We dont need a leader who will accept that zambia is poor when a country is a contry of prenty.we need a leader will face the world face to face and demand what is due to the Zambians not a leader will be spending tax payers going to foregn contries to ask for help when his contry can feed itself through its resources..Mr.SATA is the man with a face and heart to fight for the people. We should not worry political violence…the issue here is a leader who can change things for Zambians.George Bush is fighting foregn countries like IRAQ just to mantain the the strength and mighty of AMERICA as for Zambia and its only Mr.Sata who is capable of doing all these things the rest have no faces and the lauguage to convince WORLD LEADER.We dont need a leader will not have VISION and direction…we need a leader who WILL make Zambia start moving immediately he steps into STATE HOUSE.Currently we seem to be fighting petty issue in the country ranging from POLITICAL fights and personnal attacks amongest our LEADERS all these are useless battles..what we need is leader who only concentrate WITH deveolopment and empower the locals than foreigners..and Mr.SATA is the man..
Lastly and not the list..the problems we have in Zambia are not caused by our leader but by our former colonial masters who want to continue owning our PEOPLE AND THE RESOURCES and what we need is a person like BAMUDALA BA SATA to break this band.VIVA SATA FOR 2011 age is not the limit…..

Mr J Kabaso,
Thanks for your comment, your point is taken. I am keeping the scores.Invite as many people as you can in this debate. It will help everybody, to choose a right person.
Brainsplus and I will tell who we think can make a great president after everyone has given their thoughts.
The top four will be grilled together. How about others, what do they think?

belliah,
testing …
J Kabaso,
Keep on coming with more details, so as far as I can see you would like a popularist for a change.
How about the alleged corrupt practices Mr. Sata has been affiliated with in the past? Are you will to ignore them?
Isn’t past behaviour a good indication of ones future tendencies? Please explain
February 12, 2008 at 11:56 pm
… I like what I see - bring it on, thanks a trillion

In the cases of corruption and plunder amongst all people who worked with Dr.CHILUBA,Bashi CHILUFYA is the only man who has not been arrested for corruption except for the motor vehicle VEHICLE which he was accused of steeling…the matter went to court and came out a clean man..so you can see he is still clean. The next time he was arrest is when he was talking on behalf of the people(miners). He told the GOVERNMENT that they should lease miners because it is him who insitated them to riot and thats how he was arrsted the second time….anyother corrupt prictice? NOTHING.. Most of the issues leveled at Mr.Sata marely come from short sighted politicians who can not see beyond boot leaking and HERO worsping. Many of Zambian politician are fold of cheap politics of disccussing each other inteady of discussing issues affecting their people and how to solve them But what you hear from them are petty and useless statements like “BA SATA AMENO YALIBOLA”are the people going to eat MR.SATAs dental formular?what has MR.SATAs tooth to do with national issues? so you can see that 95% of our politician are petty and i dont even know how they found themselves in politics.Only MR,SATA is a mature man who can lead Zambia after 2011 and beyond. His age is not an issue.YES on the issue of MR.SATA being in previous GOVERNMENT thats a good thing we should know that time he was just a condactor but this time let him DRIVE he has gainned alot of experience….VIVA SATA FOR 2011….
February 13, 2008 at 2:01 pm
Mr KAbwe
Thanks for your comment. Is Mr SATA against foreign Investment or Not? Where exactly does he want to see the future of Zambia? Highlight us on his policies as Zambians do not need Mugabe type of leadership, or Dr Kaunda’s.

February 13, 2008 at 3:26 pm
Thanks very much for your analysis and leading my comments…You see Mr.SATA is not against foregn investors all he wants is a fare treatment for the people of zambia equal work equal pay for people..He doesnt want investors who misstreat and under pay people. He needs serious and honest investors..thats the stance the oldman has taken.Mr.SATA wants to see zambians benefit from zambian copper and other resources and not the opposite. He has seen how the so called investors are making very astronomical amounts of money at the expense of zambians.Today copper has fetch high prices at the metal markert but the bougus and untrusted investors still want to be paying 0.03% in mineral royalty is that fare for Zambian? SATA wants to see money in peoples pockets so that they put food on the table for their childern and families. He wants to see a zambia where people can enjoy from their resources? He wants to see Zambians partner with the so called investors so that accountability occurs whenever and wherever there is production. He wants to see a zambia where the local will run their businesses and not a zambia where 95% of businesses are foreigh owned. He wants to a zambia where money made by investors is reinvested into the economy insteady of the current state where 90% of money made is externalised. He wants a zambia where zambians can run businesses compared today where every business is run by SOUTHAFRICAN and the chanese…honestly do we need a foreghner from southafrica or china to come and buy buns and eggs from the local bakeries put an egg in between the ban and call such a dish as a berger?come on our women can do it.ToDAY because of luck of policies and strategies to favour the local zambians, SOUTHAFRICANS are even teasing US by setting up shops and call them fun names…..such as furncity which simply means fun city or country where people can see money…SHOPRITE which tells us to stop buying from our fellow zambia. They name their takeaways as HUNGRY LIONS-calling us hungry lion which eats even useless and expired stuff…SORRY i wouldnt love to paint this picture like this but its a reality.MR.SATA wants to change all these…if empowering local people will bring mugabe in zambia let it be so….MR.sata wants to reduce taxes for zambians so that they can have spare money.Currently zambians are paying alot in taxes compared to foregh investors….if i may to ask who should pay more taxes between those who have and those who dont have?Today even people selling CHIBWABWA(PAMPKIN LEAVE)in local markerts are paying more taxes than shoprite.if i may to ask who is an investor? Even BAMBUYA SELLING KALEMBULA is an investor…These are some of the issue SATA wants to put in line…AND only MR.SATA has the face and the eyes to look into the eyes of the enermies of zambia and tell them off…we need to be freed from the fear that sata will be like mugabe..He doent just like the chinese….BUT he will have no opption but work with them.
February 13, 2008 at 7:04 pm
Thanks Mr Kabaso, I think you are so cool.
We at Zambian chronicles need people like you who would bring out their thoughts and valid points. This will help all of us as Zambians. We need more people like you, to support their candidates with reasons.
Your points are well taken.
Just to help you out on the names that are given to shops.
I am not defending the investors, but I am just making a correction on behalf of Zambian understanding of certain names that are given to shops. We at Zambian Chronicle had a chance to exposure with the outside world. It is our duty to share our experiences and share our knowledge to our fellow Zambians.
Shoprite is not only coming from South Africa, it is every where. It is in America, under the same name and other parts of the world. So the name shoprite is not a teasing name for Zambians.
Hungry Lion, is every where, for example:
In America there is Burger King, Mcdonalds,Wendy’S,ETC.
Again it is not there to tease Zambians.Furncity is just a name, not necessary, a tease. This is like Radio Shark, circuty City etc.
On the other hand, we agree with your point of paying foreigners more than the local professionals. We agree with the imposing more tax on local and less on investors. That in its case does not make sense.
The only concern about king cobra, is Zambians would not like any dictatorship leadership, were people will start lining up for bathing soap, cooking oil, like it was in Dr Kaunda era and what is happening to Zimbabwe.
our only concern about king cobra is:
Does King Cobra has any foreign policies experience compared to Inonge Mbikusita Lewanika.
How about King Cobra’s education back ground. Is it strong enough to help Zambians compete on a global scale?
Look at Inonge Mbikusita’ s Profile and education back ground and experience in politics, she beats King cobra by far. We bring up this because, that was the main concern about Mrs Mwanawasa standing for president. Most people opposed to the idea, because of education back ground.
What is your comment on Mr Sata’s Education back ground.
Otherwise,Mr Kabaso you have valid points.
Highlight us on Mr Sata’s Education back ground, as it is also very important to have a president who can represent his country on the global scale.
So far you have 2 scores.
Thanks A trillion

I think Dr Lewanika’s supporters have fizzled out. They may not know her potential. It looks like Kwa Mongu ( my cousins ) Are not so popular. I always tell my cousins to stop having short hands.

February 15, 2008 at 7:45 am
BACK TO education…..Before i comment on Mr.Satas education,i would like you to understand what education is.Really what is education? Is education linked to leadership? what is the biggest component in leadership?Has education brought about leaders of the world? To start with, EDUCATION is what we do, what we go through everyday and what we can do with or with out certificates, diplomas and degrees from formal learning institutions.Do Zambians need an educated leader? Yes! but which education? The greatest education our leader should have is the ability to know the simple needs of his people and not a chain of degrees.what we should know is that education and leadership are too different things.Leader are not educated, they are not recturered on how to rule and lead people.Leaders are born.Leadership depend on wisdom and not degrees.LEADERS usually use common sense to sort out problems affecting their people. While EDUCATED leaders always refer to books and formulars which in actual facts are long cut to solve problems of the people.Clearly, it does not matter wether A CUT IS BLACK OR WHITE SO LONG IT CATCHES MICE-it does not matter whether a leader is educated or not so long he or she can deliver.Dr.KAUNDA was not educated but look at what he left behind hospitals, roads, kariba dams, tazara, tazama tall buldings, mines to mention a few. Did KK had a chain of degrees like Dr.LEWANIKA?Did he possess PHDs? NO NO NO…lOOK At other world leaders did they have the so called sound education back grounds? no.did they have Masters degrees? Look at all those who invented the thing we educated people are using today… did they go to any school?LOOK at the greatest men of today like bill gates… how educated is he….to be who he is? average education may be diploma in computer science…but look at the people working for him..may they are all gratuates…infact educated people are educated to actually work for other people not themselves..AND what MR.SATA whats do when he becomes president ..he wants to create jobs for the jobless zambians..improve working conditions so that our brothers and sisters staying in other countries as economic refugees can come back and work for their country.Mr.sata once elected wants create industries so that our brother and sister working in ophanages abroad can come back and work for their own country. He wants to create jobs so that every educated person get the value of their education including DR.lewanika…we want a leader like sata who is going to dictate economic growth…A MAN who is going to change zambia for better..not an educated leader with no idea of the needs of the zambian people.Today DR.LEWANIKA is in the STATES….when MR.SATA is on the ground studying problems of his people in zambia… if LEWANIKA wanted to be known by the zambian people she would have challenge DR.MWANAWASA that her services are needed here in zambia by ifluencing the president to give her a local responsibility…LOOK at how she failed for the AU SEAT? That is a clear indication that LEADERSHIP is not about a chain of degrees one has but simple wisdom to read between black and white…REMEMBER THIS…90% of problems in zambia are caused by educated people….educated people cheated Dr. that copper is finished in zambia therefore sale the mines…they cheated DR.kaunda that there was no copper at bwana mukubwa mine…today at bwana mukubwa copper is above sea level…they cheated KK that you can not carbonate natural fruit into fizzy soft drink…after using his grade nine education to convince them they managed to make TIP TOP…which became zambian soft drink..They cheated KK that its very expensive to extract copper from copper ore…today copper is easily extracted from copper ore by using simple grade nine science ELETROLYSIS..Our EDUCATED people resorted to running down companies and then cheated KK that the companies were not profitable..WHEN chiluba CAME on the scene HE STOPPED smuggling in the first week of his presidence,he sorted out problems of transport and queues for enssentials…every zambian apprecited this good work. BUT educated people again came in renewed bid and cheated DR.CHULUBA..they fed him with words like SAP,MICRO/MACROCONOMY..PRIVATISATION COMMERCIALISATION…and other MPENZA CONOMY new words…and thats how CHILUBA started selling parastals under the guidance of the educated…FJT sold KCM at only 25 million dollars…those who bought the mine made all they spent to buy this mine by simply selling scrap mental which was in yard.when this happen thousands of zambians went on the streets with no hope of a decent job or income and again the educated are at it again now demanding for their educated fellow to be president…really when you look at the above do we need an educated leader? EDUCATION/intelligency has failed zambians.Education/intelligency can not offer solutions for problems in zambia anymore..So wisdom must take charge..REMEMBER THIS AGAIN …wisdom starts where intelligengy ends..therefore wisdom must rule..The end of intelligency justfies the means for the majority zambians..when you LOOK at the above it only sata who has the wisdom and experience to rule zambia after 2011 the age is not the limit..viva sata…
February 15, 2008 at 3:32 pm
Thanks thanks a trillion,
Mr kabaso I am liking your reasoning. Good job keep it up. That is what we call critical thinking. If most Zambians can think through stuff like you do, Zambia would have been better.
Coming back to Education:
Would you tell us your opinion about Mrs Mwanawasa standing for president. A lot of Zambians, did not like the idea because, they claimed she has no education back ground. What is your thought on that, since it applies to Mr Sata. Bare in mind that Mrs Mwanawasa did not declare herself, Some Zambians feel she can make a great president for Zambia.
Mr kabaso any comments?
Thanks a trillion
Belliah
February 15, 2008 at 7:12 pm
Mr. J Kabaso,
… it is hard to discount your logic given your accompanying critical reasoning. I enjoyed reading through your antithesis on education, in one sense I agree because all civilization actually stated in Africa and when others learnt our processes they improved on them and told us our ways were primitive.
On the other hand though we can’t completely discount education. Going by your own analysis, I guarantee you that if both Dr. Kaunda and Dr. Chiluba were educated enough; they would have argued their case with those educated people. Instead, they argued from a position of weakness and not a position of strength … in most cases did not even argue at all.
They too would have used their education as a foundation to enter into intellectual discourse and do their own SWAT analyses. I would argue that they both were not in a position to state their case against the so called intellectuals because they themselves were academically deficient.
What we need therefore is a natural born leader or a self-made leader with both the education and natural instincts you referred to above. It is possible to have such a leader among the many sons and daughters of the Zambian Enterprise.
In conclusion, your antithesis is highly flawed and has fallacies in it because going by your diatribe, and if precedence holds true, your uneducated Mr. Sata will fall in the same trap his two predecessors did because intellectuals will be advising him and without his own academic efficiencies in place, he is likely to fall victim just like that … thanks a trillion.

There are many educated Zambians and born Leaders that can be groomed. I think Education is power.I enjoyed reading Mr Kabaso’ s comment.
It gave me flash backs, of how lack of education can make someone look so foolish with the outside world.I do not want to go back to lining up for cooking oil or bathing soap or my president to be seen like a dull by the outside world.
CAN YOU IMAGINE GOING BACK TO TIP TOP DRINK AND NAKED SOAP. OH NO.
February 16, 2008 at 12:46 am
Belliah,
… you point exactly, without checks and balances we would end up with a merry go round scenario, the world is moving and we can’t afford to remain behind. You know history has a funny way of repeating itself if we don’t learn from the past … thanks a trillion.
Ba Kabaso,
… it is not too late for Bashi Chilufya to get some degree from UNZA in either Economics or Law. If I remember correctly those disciplines were offered by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the Great East Campus.
They were three year programs and Bashi Chilufya can attend classes in the evening; if he starts now in 2008, he would have a degree by the time we start campaigning in 2011.
Some of the best students I had in my classes in college were individuals like him, who came with a wealth of practical knowledge. Bashi Chilufya is smart by nature, married to a gynecologist for crying out aloud.
Law would be very interesting because he has been in parliament for a long time being part of the process that formulates policy and Economics would be a thriller for him having been part of a government that actually ran the Zambian Enterprise.
Instead of just sitting there he can make these three years count for him and guess what, come 2011, he would have a bachelors degree to show for during his campaigns, now that’s free advise from us at the Zambian Chronicle … thanks a trillion.
February 16, 2008 at 3:03 am
I totally agree with Brainsplus,
We at Zambian Chronicle encourage Ba Sata, to go back to school. No one will ever lie to him, with his education as a defence.
Yes he is a man of action, but he needs to get a final asset. ( Education).
Actually I will recommend him to apply to Seton Hall University in USA. It has very good programs for politicians. School Of Diplomacy, will give him all it takes to shut up ba Mwisa.
That is a recomendation from Zambian Chronicle.
By the way Ba kabaso You can make a good campaign manager for Mr Sata. Give him our advice and see if he can take it. Its is not too late.
Thanks a trillion

ONCE again we are at it.To start with, I would like to respond to your question on Mrs Mwanawasa Presidence. As i said on SATAs education its the same with Mrs.Mwanawasa….its not education which rules but the best in a person. One thing you should know about Mrs.Mwanawasa is that she inherited VERA chilubas hope foundation formular of donating goods in villages and thats how she helped the husband win elections in 2006…it not that she has leadership qualities. Its a few people from rural areas who are calling for her to stand for presidence and a few MMD carder who doesnt to see Dr.MWANAWASA out of state house just like Some people in America wants CLINTON rule for a third and fourth term through the wife.
COMMENTS ON SATA BACK TO SCHOOL RESERVED…..
February 17, 2008 at 9:08 am
To start with I want you to further understand whether the value we have given to education is worth it.In zambia today, people are preoccupied with the worry of getting educated for them to land themselves into good jobs and possibilly become PRESIDENTS….But the biggest question which has remained an answered is that are these people getting the real education or just part of it?
Fore fear of failing young people panic and sometimes go to the extent attending extra lessons so that they can get good grades for them to be recognized by the so called modern society. As if that was not enough parents to these children go to the extent of witnessing how their chidren are being taught…but again the biggest question a wiseman of zambia can ask is, are these children getting the real education or part of it? It is also common to see young pupils carrying huge loads of books and pafflets but are these pupils getting more educated or simply getting more information on other peoples education? I HOPE WILL REALISE THIS BEFORE ITS TOO LATE?
The Government has gone to the extent of building more schools, colleges and universities to have more people get educated? But again is the Government sorting out or worsening the problem To me they are worsening the problem.First all we at present ,we have a lot of learning institions which are our educated leaders are failing to look after and sometimes failing even to pay workers of the same institions WELL? What the GOVENMENT and educated people should know is that building more schools neither solve problems in zambia nor giving US EDUCATED AND CREDIBLE LEADERS It will not even give us the EDUCATED PRESIDENT we want. The only remedy is to change the quantity and quality of education.
why should Zambian pupils go for extra lessons to go and learn about VASCO DAGAMA and memorise journeys of david livingstone when their colleagues in japan and china are lernning skills and specialisation on how to make 90 % of that Chinese spoons in OUR houses those Chinese pots and those Chinese products in our homes…
Is this the education we want our leaders to aquire? HOOPS this type of education is very useless.our leaders only needs WISDOM AND SKILLS to help the country get out of poverty. But it looks we are over drunk with this symptom that education is the only qualification to leadership and a ladder for a few educated people to top jobs in big companies..Many companies run down have follen victims to educated people simply because these educated few weigh heavily on theories and luck practical exposure in things which matters most to the zambian society..ARE these the same people we want to entrust this country into?Clearly, in zambia we have see those who claim to be educated in the western view getting stuck in their homes with their degrees.why is it like this? Because what i know is that the cream of society are those who have been to universities but how come the vast majority of the educated are working for those who never entered a class room or university?Zambian chronicals the simple reason is that Zambian schools and universities condition students and the cream to study well, grade good grades to work for other people.BUT surprising enough, these people are called proffessionals of High Degree PHDs but how come they are failling to create jobs for themselves and other peolpe?why are they chasing drop out like the bill gates of this world for jobs?
This point convinces me that all those people who claim to be educated are only educated on how to speek english….to sale Zambia at international level in exchange for donation..This is the reason why the KABOVAS in zambia are creating jobs for gradutes.this point shows me how farm boys are creating wealth for zambia.Nowonder dreamers are making more money the educated.
We must subtract the marks which we have put on education of a black board….what we should know is that education from schools only contributes 20% to our IQ Which leaves 80% to other sources.which means education from books falls under 20% and what we can do with out books falls under 80%…If i may to ask, do we want a leader who is going to use on 20% of his knowledge in leading US?
In zambian schools pupils are asked what they want to be when they grow up.some pupils say they would like to become nurses but in the end they become teacher.Others say they would like to be pilots but after school they become taxi drivers and those who would like to be soldiers in real life they become pastors. Many of them say they would like to become managers and Directors but in the end become security guards as those who would like to be scientist end up being carperters for those who would like to become town planners only become grave diggers.for those who would like to be prechears only become armed robbers and those who would like to become presidents only become village headmen.THIS POINT PROVES TO ME THAT OUR AMBITIONS WHILST IN SCHOOLS turns out to be different from the real life.Mr.sata is already educated and has a CV of action-all he needs support in 2011.

Ba Kabaso
… when Japan opened herself to the world in 1868, one of the government’s high priorities was catching up with Western standards in science and education.
The Japanese education system was reformed mainly according to the German and French model which experts regarded as most suitable and advantageous.
After the Second World War, the Americans reformed the Japanese education system after their own which consists of six years of elementary school, each three years of junior and senior high school and four years of university or two years of junior college.
Compulsory education includes elementary school and junior high school. Over 90% of all students also graduate from high school and over 40% from university or junior college.
At universities the percentage of male students is higher than that of female students while the opposite is the case at junior colleges. The number of graduate university students is relatively low.
The Japanese school year starts in April and consists of three terms, separated by short holidays in spring and winter, and a one month long summer break.
A characteristic of the Japanese school system are entrance exams, and with them a high competitiveness among students. Most high schools, universities, as well as a few private junior high schools and elementary schools require applicants to write entrance exams.
In order to pass entrance exams to the best institutions, many students attend special preparation schools (juku) besides regular classes, or for one to two years between high school and university (yobiko). This is similar to the tutorials you are referring to.
The most prestigious universities are the national University of Tokyo and University of Kyoto, followed by the best private universities.
Today, Japan has the second largest economy in the world and they built it within 40 years. From the ashes of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945 to an economic power house in 1985.
By that year 6 of the world’s largest banks were in Japan and the Kanto region where Tokyo is a land the size of our Copperbelt has over 1,200 universities and colleges.
I just don’t understand your own gist against education but that does not discount the fact that our current educational system might be flawed.
If it is, then by all means let’s fix it but let’s not denigrate the only sure way each individual can be helped to self-actualize … thanks a trillion

Zambian chronicals am happy the way you guys are conducting this programme but try to be objective and stop taking sides….this is a debate dont show your interest otherwise the purpose of your DEBATE wont help Zambia from the boots of poverty it is into.Secondly i have observed that Mr.MBULAWA seems to know how Zambian assets moved from one company to the other. Can commerade MBULAWA tell the nation and the world atlarge on how Mr.sata participated into this MATRIX which was fuelled by international criminals. Can He tell Zambians which company Mr.Sata sold or deemm to have influenced its sale. One thing we should know is that Mr.Sata was in Chilubas Government as a mere PASSANGER….FJT was the Driver himself….The FACT that SATA was in CHILUBAS Government should not be CONSTRUED as the GOSPEL truth that HE was part of the game.. INFACT in many things CHILUBA did he used outsiders like HH just like you clearly saw him picking his SUCCESSOR from outside.Everyone knows that during his tenure, CHILUBA only listened to WORLD BANK and IMF(WORLD ECONOMIC BANDITS)who funded him to become president on condition that He gives them parastals and whatever they wanted in the name of Privatisation…. Can Mr.MBULAWA tell me on how Sata was involved into this well calculated equation? Atleast HH was given a tender as an adiministrator of receivership for one or two companies which were sold. And if commerade MBULAWA says neither HH nor KING COBRA can be presidents, can he tell the pannel who should be the president and why? otherwise CASTRO CHILUBA will have no option but to contest..

Mr Kabaso –
There can be no doubt that education is the foundational building block of every advanced society from ancient Egypt to the Roman Empire to the current Pacific Rim economic boom. Unfortunately, my friend, you confuse two completely different concepts when you speak of educated people not creating businesses. The ability to create a business deals with the entrepreneurial spirit. Many of the world’s great entrepreneurs were not formally educated. Take Thomas Edison, for instance. He was named the man of the millenium for all his great inventions. Despite being from a poor background, he was a genius. This was an undeniable gift from God. Yet Edison was a champion of education and spent much of his fortune helping fellow Americans obtain the training he lacked. He depended on his legions of scientists and chemist and engineers to make his visions a reality. And as far as Bill Gates is concerned, he did indeed drop out of Harvard University. What you fail to realize is that Gate’s father was a wealthy, prominent lawyer. Because he came from privilege, he was able to drop out and continue his work without worrying about paying his bills or taking care of his family. Without his father’s education and success as an attorney, he would never have been able to start Microsoft. Besides, Bill Gates openly admits that he stole the DOS operating system from other software engineers.
Moreover, it has been proven through the centuries that a liberal arts education is the best way to develop a mind. This tradition comes directly from the Protestant Reformation, when men of God realized that it was a godly pursuit to study the nature of His creation rather than hide behind a veil of ignorance which allowed the elite clerics to tell people what to believe. Sir Isaac Newton, the father of modern physics, was a devout Christian. This was common among the great minds of his day. When you question why Zambian children should learn about Vasco DeGama or other apsects of history, you fail to remember that the best teacher for us in the present is what transpired in the past. The liberal arts education emphasizes an exposure to many intellectual disciplines because all knowledge works together. Nothing occurs in a vacuum. One of the reasons western civilisation was dominant throughout the world is because they saw the “big picture”. This is the kind of thinking that a broad liberal arts education provides. It has been proven scientifically that when children learn to play an instrument or participate in other cognitive activities, their brains develop both faster and better.
The truth is that if Zambia is ever to rise above its borders and take its place in the world community, it must look past itself and pursue a big picture vision of its proper place in the world. We live in a global community. No nation, except possibly North Korea, is an island unto itself. It is no coincidence that North Korea is arguably the most repressive nation on the face of the earth. They have no economy and exist based on handouts from the Chinese and the United States. Until Zambia places a renewed emphasis on education and produces doctors, chemists, engineers and the like, it will continue to be little more than a footstool for other nations and predatory foreign interests. These same scientists, doctors and chemists will be the ones who eventually end the plague of AIDS. If you think the western nations will save you, think again. As the old saying goes, God helps those who help themselves. It is time for Zambia to learn from history and have its own reformation — God will honor a commitment to excellence in attitude, education and conduct. Where He is glorified, there is power. I pray that Zambia will tap into this power by using the minds God gave them. The intellect is there — the first African born chess grand master is a Zambian. How many other great minds are currently being sacrificed by the small minded minority that is content never to progress, but to merely exist?
I believe that Mr Hakainde Hichilema would make a worthy president if Zambia is to move forward. Between his impressive educational background, exposure to international commerce and his extensive business connections, he is uniquely suited to guide Zambia into the 21st century.

Thanks SIMMON 12
Thanks Bro for sharing same sentiments with me. we can compare our education to those of the east or west but the bottom-line is educating people who will be beneficial to the nation Zambia. We can educate DOCTORS, CHEMISITS and ENGINEERS… but what is the benefit of a doctor who is just a champion in reading instructions on bottles of drugs from other countries? what is the purpose of educating a chemisist/pharmasist who can not make drugs except just mixing substances imported from abroad? what is the purpose of educating an ENGINEERS who can not even design a wheelbarrow or simply an eye needle? Talking about connections. we need a leader who is going to make Zambia heaven of jobs. we need a leader who is going to convert all half baked engeaers, doctors into full baked proffesional..we need a leader who is well connected to the owners of the zambian resources and that only MIKO SATA..in the past such connections have caused this country a lot of problems.. For the example..connections were made to have foreigh mine investors but today common zambians are not benfiting from copper proceedes.Today Zambia is faced income decays and income gups between those who are well connected and those who are not and these are some of the issues which have been Mr.sata.Are these the connections we want our leader to have? These connections have made many african leaders stop thinking hence resorted to begging. From January to december every year we see our leaders swarm towards EUROPE AND AMERICA in large numbers in the same manner we see swallow birds moving from one hemisphere to another in search of greener pastures.Leaders said to be coming from a poor country move with a 300 man delagation towards EUROPE and AMERICA asking for help and one wonders how much they spend in AIR TICKETS put 300 heads on the plane. As if that was not enough all the 300 member that delagation are in brand new suits, and shoes. When accessed by the donor country, these guys are only given EXPIRED ARVS,CONDOMS and malaria vaccines when there are no cases of malaria in their country. On the day of presenting the expired ARVS AND CONDOMS the representive of the donor country only put on a simple t shirt and a pair of faded jean when the minister in the reciepient country is in a brand new suits and shoes with their names written on them. Its in zambia where smartly dressed leaders begg from poorly dressed countries. Its here where have seen Leaders CHEAPENING themselves and become international beggers.Because of not realizing the value of our resources, Our Well conneted leaders go foreigh countries to begg even for foot pitches insteady of using our money to build our own stadiums.Zambia is one of the richest countries in Africa where leaders over look their wealth and resort to simple begging which leaves this central African country to be a laughing stock at international level. In the name of connection our leaders spend money which can be used to sort out people peoples problems instantly for just begging spree trips to and from EUROPE.Dear Zambians lets stop begging spree as we can still live even with out begging. Lets support Ba SATA has he is going to bring all those who want to help zambia come to Zambia instead of going to them as it is the case today.By all means let avoid this culture of begging its very bad. Lets use our creative minds and resources to create wealth for mother zambia….Am for Sata….because he is the only leader who to redeem zambia from this international redicule of being beggers of all seasons.EDUCATION,CONNECTIONS and the AGE are not the limits for the oldman.

For any one, at anytime to pick one person and say he or she is the ONLY person to lead a Country clearly illustrates the lack of seriousness with which we tend to deal with matters of governance. One might also theorize it is also perhaps indicative of the lack of leadership in any given population(I hope this is not the case)
In this day and age of globalization and glocalization, academics matter. foreign affairs experience matters. A clear understanding of the politics of governance and economics of it is imperative and must not be underestimated(have we forgotten what happened the last time we picked a 7th grade graduate for President?)
Zambians like any other self-respecting people value formal education because we understand it is critical to individual and national development. In fact, I would argue it is an indispensable component to development. Show me one Country that has achieved significant advancements in development without formal education and maybe you’ll make your point.
Now, I am sure Dr. Lewanika, Mr. Sata and Mr. Hakainde and whoever else, have their merits and demerits and I would hope we seriously equate them with where we want to go as a Country, politically, economically, socially. And if they are found wanting, we should reconsider our choices.
The kind of changes that have been pointed out here not only require but demand a good education, they require a level of leadership that is yet to be exhibited. Let’s not limit ourself.
Given the state our Country is in, where do we get off choosing a leader based on a fiery temperament? Do not confuse loudness for intelligence, capability or strength. How can anyone discount a good solid education in the selection of a President?
Besides, is there no one else? Will no other man or woman stand?
Personally, I am more interested in seeing more capable and intelligent people contest. We deserve it…And, people, let’s tone down the rhetoric.

Lisa,
Thanks a trillion for your contribution.
Where have you been? We need people like you to bring out facts that support our plea for selecting the best leaders that can take Zambia to the next level.Very brilliant notion you have put forward. I wished Zambians can open their eyes and look at both side of the coin. I support your notion that Zambia has more to offer than keep recycling same candidates over and over.
Thanks a trillion

In selecting a National ledaer one cannot in any way substitute education. Mr. Kabaso refered to Mr F.T.J and K.K to have been misguided by the educated, well that is the more reason why a President should be an educated person so that when they tell you that you cannot extract copper from coppoer ore you will be able to reason on your own and decline such advises. Globalisation bbrings with it a lot of ledaership such that you need someone who will understand the 21st century economics to develop a country like Zambia. You need someone that will guide the nation radically but within the frameworks of good governance and rule of law. When Mr. Kabaso talks about availability of employment, someone needs to ask oneself a question how do you create employment in a free market economy, it is simple.. the leadership creates an anabling environment for Investors, local and foreign Investments alike so that there wealth creation and Job opportunities. This is a sure way of empowering people. You need a leader who understand what Macro and Micro economics works, not only understand them but how to interpret them in to practically. A country cannot survive alone, it needs to trade with the entire world, this requires someone who is upbeat with International relations and deplomacy in order to facilitate good trading deals and bilateral relations with other countries. All this requires Education Mr. Kabaso and experience in policy formualtions.. You don’t just wake up one morning and decide am going to clinics and make sure all nurses are putting on decent uniforms, you need to look back and analyse what procedures (code of conduct) have we put in place for reference. Mr. Kabaso many leaders make mistakes out of mob influence, the majority of people might be saying something is right when it is wrong, it takes a good leader with analytical skills to know the course of action. This requires good education background. Bwana Kabaso EPA is bing signed between African Countries and Europeans , do we understand the implication, this already requires educated technocrats to analyse and details advantages and disadvantages. All this requires Educationa married with experience. What experience does Mr. C. Sata has that Dr. Inonge does not have?
If we have an educated and experienced President no adviser will take advantage of him or her for personal gain like Mr. Kabaso has put it that F.J.T and K.K. where decieved in many ways.
